Pi Alpha Ride Along
As with any Push America cycling event, safety and preparation are top priorities. In the information below, you will find detailed information about each event and specific requirement needed by the Push America office prior to your participation. Please contact pushamericachallenge@pushamerica.org with any additional questions.    

2012 ANNIVERSARY RIDE - LOGISTICS 

Day 1 - August 2, 2012

  • Travel: Pi Alphas will arrive in Richmond between 4:00-8:00 p.m to check in, bike assembly and catching up with friends. Recommended flight information is as follows (in order of preference):
    • Fly into Richmond International Airport and out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C.
    • Fly in and out of Richmond, Virginia - shuttles will be provided back to Richmond on Monday morning.
    • Fly in and out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C. - a 5:00 p.m. shuttle and a 7:00 p.m. shuttle will leave from Reagan National Airport on August 2 to transport participants to Richmond, Virginia.
  • Shuttle: A shuttle service will be provided as follows:
    • Richmond International Airport shuttle will occur each hour on the hour from 4:00-8:00 p.m. unless otherwise requested.
    • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport shuttles will occur at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Lodging: Benedictine High School
  • Bike Transport: It is advised to transport bikes on the airplane. Assembly assistance will be provided at lodging. The Push America staff is working on bike rental options and will update this information as it becomes available. 
  • Meals: Meals are not provided on this day

Day 2 - August 3, 2012 - Richmond to Fredericksburg

  • Route: The first day of riding will take riders on a historic 70-mile ride following Cycling Route 1 for most of the day. The ride follows a rolling terrain through the hills and farmland of Eastern Virginia.
  • Lodging: Fredericksburg Academy
  • Friendship Visit: Participants will have the option to join the Journey of Hope TransAmerica team for a Friendship Visit and dinner with the Arc of Fredericksburg.
  • Meals: All meals provided (Dinner only provided to those participating in the Friendship Visit).
Day 3 - August 4, 2012 - Fredericksburg to Burke
  • Route: This 60-mile ride will quickly remind riders that Eastern Virginia is not flat and will test the endurance of some "seasoned" Pi Alphas. While there are no significant climbs, the consistent rolling terrain through beautiful country roads makes this day quite memorable. 
  • Lodging: St. Stephen's United Methodist Church
  • Team Celebration: On this night, St. Stephen's UMC will host the Ride Along, Build Along, Journey of Hope and Build America team members for a wonderful dinner and celebration. 

Day 4 - August 5, 2012 - Burke to Washington, D.C.

  • Route: This short day into Washington, D.C. will give riders a chance to reflect on their past few days together as they approach the Capitol and surrounding monuments.
  • Arrival: Arrival at the Capitol will occur precisely at 11:00 a.m.
  • Lodging: A limited number of rooms have been blocked off at a discounted rate of $159 at the JW Marriot Washington, D.C.
  • Reception: A Push America anniversary reception will occur at the JW Marriot Washington, D.C. at 5:00 p.m.
  • Bike Transport: Boxes will be provided at hotel to pack bikes for transport home

Day 5 - August 6, 2012

  • Shuttle: Shuttles will be provided to participants flying out of Richmond International Airport from 6:00-10:00 a.m.
2012 ANNIVERSARY RIDE - MORE INFORMATION
  • Dates: August 2-5, 2012
  • Register HERE 
  • Fundraising requirement of $750
  • Read, complete and submit the necessary forms:
  • The 2012 Pi Alpha Ride Along is occurring in conjunction with the 53rd Supreme Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. Accommodations can be made for any Ride Along participants needing to attend specific Supreme Chapter events. Please contact pushamericachallenge@pushamerica.org for details. 
  • Crew members are welcome!
ENROUTE RIDE ALONG 
  • Register HERE two weeks prior to ride
  • Fundraising requirement of $100 (one day), $250 (two day) or $500 (three day)
  • Read, complete and submit the necessary forms:
  • Coordinate travel to and from ride
  • Crew members welcome

IMPORTANT: All enroute ride alongs must be approved by the Push America office. Any ride along risking the safety of the team, integrity of the trip or neglecting the mission of Push America will be immediately dismissed.
