Did you know that there are over 54 million Americans living with a disability today? People with disabilities face many challenges everyday that you and I cannot imagine. But one of the most tragic barriers is a lack of understanding by our society. A simple message of empathy and acceptance is all it takes to break down this barrier, and I have committed myself to spreading this message.

I will be raising awareness on behalf of people with disabilities by participating in my own Push America Challenge. This summer I will be competing in the Muncie Half Ironman 70.3 on July 7, 2012.  As many of you know, since I became a member of Pi Kappa Phi during my first year of college, Push America has been a significant part of my life.  I have participated in the Journey of Hope ('08) as a cyclist, Build America ('09) as the project manager & Gear Up Florida ('10) as a cyclist. The time spent training, cycling, fundraising, building amenities, spreading the word about the ABILITIES of ALL people and most importantly spending time with the individuals we serve has truly been a blessing!  This is my opportunity to again spread the message of the ABILITIES of all people and raise additional funds to support the mission of Push America & Pi Kappa Phi!

My individual goal is to raise $5,000 as a part of the overall Push America Challenge goal of raising over $125,000 this year. My event will also help Push America reach out to thousands of people with disabilities while spreading the message of acceptance and understanding to more than 40 million people!
